Non-Local Fishing Report

Went out fishing saturday and it not local but its a place RAC used to frequent so I thought I'd post a report thinking he'd appreciate it. Went down to Indian River Inlet in search for some tautog. Rolled into the parking lot about 6am only to see temporary fencing around the sidewalk along the water right by my favorite hole. Apparently, the Army Corp's finally decided to fix the busted and undermined sidewalk and railing that's been neglected for about 30 years. Grabbed my gear and a bucket of sand fleas and headed down along the fence. I was looking around the fence to see if I could get to my hole if I walked on the rocks between the railing and the water. There was a guy standing next to the fence and told not to try it because they were doing work on the other side of the inlet and the rangers were writing $300 fines to anyone that fished the rocks below the construction area. I decided it wasn't worth the risk so I settled on a spot about 30 ft. away. A bit later, just before sun rise the white bucket brigade showed up (about 30 of them) RAC would know who I'm talking about. Half of them went around the fence on the rocks the first guy setting up right in my hole. The sun came up and the tide was just starting to rip out. Couldn't cast too far out or your gear would end up in the rocks so settled for near shore. Got a few bites right away and managed one small Tautog. The tide started to really rip out and the bite slowed down. I looked down the rocks to see the guy fishing my hole catching one after another after putting a nice one on the stringer. Around 10:30 am the Park Police showed up. Finally, some justice. I watched the officer go around the fence and start kicking guys of the rocks telling them to wait by the fence. Another officer came up and started checking licenses but then he let them go. Finally he worked his way up to me and checked my license and I asked why they weren't issuing citations. He said that's more of a fish and wildlife thing. I just shrugged and went back to fishing. The tide was starting to slow a bit and I could fish further out without losing my gear. Caught 3 more tautog, one of which was big enough to measure but still short. Lost 3 others after they took me into the rocks, two of them felt pretty decent. When the tide started rolling in, I switched to blues and striper tactics. The wind kicked up and instantly clouded the water. Birds showed up and were picking bait out of the water. Couldn't get a bite despite throwing everything in my arsenal even a shad dart. Plenty of bait just nothing feeding on them but birds. Fished a few more hours... Nada. Packed up about 3pm. That was a full day fishing but not alot to show for it. Not much of a report but thought RAC would enjoy it.
We had a few light frosts here but Garden still producing tomatoes. Just small ones. We haven't had measurable rain in 35 days. Burn restrictions are in place but not water... Yet. Yard is a dust bowl. The dog needs the dust wiped off her everytime she runs around the yard. I'll have some work next spring for sure.
