I typically put my lawn clippings around may plants about 3" deep. Helps hold moisture, adds nutrients as the plants grow & keeps the weeds out. This summer was a bit brutal. Despite frequent watering, that heat was just too much for my peppers. Production is way down. The ones that are shaded did much better than the ones in the full sun. They are doing much better after the heat wave broke. We like the stuffed hot cherry peppers on the grill.
