after my garden was destroyed by hail last year, i started doing some research. i was turning my soil in all my beds. i have 6 beds 4x8. quite a lot of work for a old fart like me. now they say just clean off the top and add 3 inches of good soil. work it in lightly and plant. they said turning all of it was messing up the microorganisms and a bunch of other stuff. i was already adding rich soil on top. they suggest a mixture of rich compost,peet,sand,really good topsoil. i have a mixture i use. you can google it and pick what you want. i like mircle grow products. also i pinched the tops out of my green pepper plants. it was hard to do. they were nice plants. but i did it to 3 of them. they looked like crap for a while, but then they took off and i had peppers out the butt. i couldn't believe it. some older man out at my county store told me about it. so there you go. you guys stay safe. King sounds like you almost had pneumonia. I have had trouble with my sinuses and ears all winter.
