That's not long I would have spent 2 or 3 weeks for that far this time of year to really enjoy it. I do suggest avoiding summer months.
As for waders the water temperature is 65 degrees, I can stand it myself once used to it for wading, can run in cast between wave breaks.
The cast net you would probably have to try the roadside ditches on the sound, might get some minnows or shrimp for surf look for schools.
The freshwater rods, reels and lures will work just wash it off good when done, small rod for jigs with plastic minnows or for Mirrolures.
The Bass Assassin shad soft plastic on a jig head is good in a white or green color. Another that works well is a plain white bucktail jig.
Either split tail or paddle tail shad seems to be the right size and shape for them .....
808 black / gold / orange, Purple Demon, black or green back on silver / white, red head on silver / white and silver with fluorescent colors.
Best for that when not rough, you don't have to throw out far work the drop off up close and muddy spots caused by the waves running back.
A longer rod at least 8' or 9' for bottom fishing or throwing metal lures to get out there, watch the birds and see if they doing anything.
For bottom fishing use a double hooked rig, hook size small size 5 or 4, larger size 2, sinker 3 or 4 oz storm, line 15 lb Trilene Big Game.
The tackle shops will be able to get you set up with advice, rigs and bait. It is better to catch them when not real busy you get more time.
