That’s one thing I regularly do is make sure I can self rescue. I’m not getting any younger and it harder and harder each year. It’s probably the most important thing to know aside from dressing for the water temp and knowing the wind direction and tides. Anytime the wind and the tide oppose each other, it can get especially snotty in a kayak. I also don’t venture too far out in unfamiliar waters unless I got some company. Been doing kayak fishing since 2002 although I do mostly crabbing these days and when I fish up this way it’s from the surf or the rock piles.
