OBX Rookie

I live in the Boston area and I am coming down to the OBX for a week in about 2 weeks. I do a little surf fishing up here for stripers but I am wondering what is around down there this time of year and what bait/rigging is best. What can I expect from the surf/pier. Any advice is much appreciated.
