I'll be coming down with my son on July 20. Plan on bringing a couple Penn 550 outfits and a Penn 525mag with a short and long surf rod for it. And lures/terminal tackle. Plus crabbing gear.
We will be staying in Nags Head and plan to do our crabbing under the big bridge going over to Manteo, and fish wherever and whenever seems opportune.

My big question is: Should the crabbing be good the latter part of July (weather and all things considered)? Catching a few will really make the trip.

One other question: How is the road south from Whalebone Junction to Buxton?

Most people I talked with last year recommended chicken necks for crab bait, but we did a lot better with chicken backs. For what it's worth.
