A few tips for that doodlebug
Make certain the strip of bait lies flat with hooks straight.
Do this by attaching the strip of cut bait to the rear hook first, then just lap rear hook over to about where it will lay straight and slide it onto the front hook.
Sounds more complicated than it is.
A fish finder rig is a great way of rigging to the line, some use 2 bugs, I only use 1 because I catch fish one at a time.
If you really want some fun, rig it on a light rod, hook the bait up the same way, but forget the sinker.
It will float, twitch it and you'll see it come flat on the surface, then drop but still float..
red/yellow & red/white work well in all water color
I prefer red/yellow in cloudy water.
You can handle some large fish with these little 1/0 hooks, just remember their only 1/0
Chart & pink are best in clear water, a few years ago the Ocracoke tournament was won by St Croix team out of Lewes DE. using a pink doodlebug.
If you use your imagination it can work wonders for you...
