I remember reading a while back about a study that showed that Great Whites and Makos (along with Tuna , possibly billfish) are somewhat warm blooded. I think it was related to being able to raise their body temperature for a short burst of speed when hunting mainly , but I may be mistaken.
I think the term used was endothermic vs. ectothermic (most fish). Not entirely sure. I do know that down around South Africa , which is probably pretty cold water , the Great Whites are there almost year round. I think they prey on seals some , too.
Good to see that site tracking and studying them , either way. I think there was a similar thing for marlin and sailfish , but can't remember the URL.
Another possibility might be a delayed release of the tracking data to prevent people from targeting the sharks?
