Dead menhaden

Hey guys. Long time no posts. Hope everyone is doin well. Im elevating a house in Washington and walked out on the pier today to see the bottom littered with dead menhaden and at times see whole schools of dead fish float by. Reckon this was due to the sudden cold snap or has anyone heard of any water problems that might have caused it. All the fish were 3-4" inches
