Surf Fishing Corolla

I usually come to the Outer Banks in August but this year I will be arriving on September 23rd for a week. I was hopping the fishing would be better this time of year. Can anyone advise? What is the best location? We will be staying at Whalehead beach. Thanks for any insight and tips you can give.
