Sound Access?

Hey gang! Found King's site a few years back before an OBX trip and have been following faithfully ever since, usually with my tongue hanging out, wishing I were there fishing.

We have in-laws in Camden, NC (right next to Elizabeth City, less than an hour to many parts of the OBX), and we're planning our annual long weekend trip down from Baltimore the first or second week of September. I've been following the board all summer (well, all year actually), and I've noticed from postings that surf fishing seems to have been kinda on the slow side, and very hit and miss this season. However, what I've seen posted as to the Sound side seems very encouraging. I've never fished the Sounds, and would like to give it a try this time around.

Here's a couple of questions for you, and any help or advice is greatly appreciated. We don't have a boat, so are there parts of the Sound that can be fished either from the banks or from bridges, piers etc.? If so,where are they, and how do you get there?

Finally, I'd like to get out to an ocean side fishing pier at least part of one day. What's been happening on the piers this summer? I've never fished much south of Nag's Head, other than a couple of trips on head boats out of Oregon Inlet. Any pier recommendations that wouldn't be too far from our base of operations in Camden? Certainly we're willing to travel up to an hour and a half or so.

I know this is a lot to ask, but it's gonna be our one trip to the OBX vicinity this year, and I'm starting to go a little berserk! Thanks to all, tight lines, B.K.
