they're a really fascinating fish. Check out the Fishes disc of LIFE(i think its this one, if not its blue planet, hard to keep the documentaries straight) sometime as there is a really neat section on them in there with some awesome footage.

As for the name, taxonomists tend to get bored and/or try to be funny a lot with their naming of things so that is the likely origin.
