There is no trick and it is alright to ask. When I fish for trout, I want my lure bouncing off the bottom. Because of this, I fish with the current coming at me. That determines what side of the bridge I fish from. You need to pay attention to the wind because it can fool you. Sometimes the wind blows the surface water in the opposite direction as the actual current flow.
