It would be whatever the fish of the day is like spot, sea mullet, croaker and bluefish. Could be just one kind or a variety of fish and acting like you don't know what your doing can be a good thing.
Basically for the smaller size fish a double hook bottom rig with small size 5 Eagle Claw snelled hooks and a 3 or 4 oz pyramid shaped sinker. Baited with Fishbites bloodworm or crab flavored bait, small pieces of shrimp, squid or fish.
For bigger fish set out another rod with a drum rig and use a fish steak, whole fillet, head or live bait like a small spot or croaker. Most of the time it's sharks and rays.
The tackle shops would be able to help you with rigs, bait and what's going on. Try to catch them when they aren't busy, you'll get more info.
One rig the tackle shops might have for the summer small stuff is a Spot, Sea Mullet & Kingfish Rig by Sea Striker. The rig has small hooks and floats that keeps the bait off the bottom and away from the crabs, works for everything including those little 8" bluefish. There's 2 kinds both work good and it lasts about 3 days, I prefer the one with the round floats....
