I'd stop by the tackle shops and ask them what jig has been working where your going and take a look at the rack and see what's selling, several of the same color that's low could be worth trying.
The drum are hitting cut bait and shrimp at the little bridge on the Nags Head / Manteo causeway, expect a crowd there. I don't know what's been happening at the catwalk. The boaters have been catching bluefish and keeper size flounder inside of Oregon Inlet.
The surf has been flat and very clear. It's still some bluefish and skates during the day and some sea mullet at night.
If your going to walk over the pier carts and wagons with the big tires do good in the sand for hauling a 48 qt. cooler, beach chair, sand spikes, rods, etc. over. I use bungee cords to hold it all together. The last parking area on the beach road in South Nags Head might be worth checking out, the old trout holes on the north side of the piers are still there and if your going further south to Buxton I'd try the jetties where the lighthouse used to be.
The beach closing mess will go on until September when the storms offshore clean the beach off then it will be back to the way it was and should be.
