Did it look they were picking up bunkers (menhaden)? The big stripers have shown up around the bridge and they may have been feeding on them. Last week a 25 and 40 pounder was caught in that vicinity. More should have been caught but it has proven difficult to get your baits past the sharks. I will be fishing the area on Sunday. I'll try pulling some artificials to help get by the pests.
