Storm Report *PIC*

Here is a little storm report from Wanchese. The leading edge was not too bad. The trailing edge kicked out butt. The winds were steady 40-50 mph with gusts to 70. A lot of tree damage but all in all, not too terrible. As the winds started to subside, the water in the canal started to rise over its banks. It came on fast and within five minutes there was a foot of water in my yard on both sides of the house. I told my wife to follow me in our pick-up as I towed the boat to higher ground. I ended up leaving it in the county office building parking lot. I tried to make it back to Wanchese but there was already a foot of flowing water on the road. Within a half hour, there was five feet of water on the Wanchese road, five feet of water on the causeway, four feet on th main street Manteo, and four feet in Manns Harbor.I ended up staying in the CVS parking lot until early the next morning. My house had severe water and mud damage and we are still cleaning up and throwing things away. We had lost power for about 24 hours. The cleanup was much easier with running water. All in all, we did okay. I probaly totalled my car but the water came up so fast, I had to choose between it or my truck and boat. The boat is fine and I think I'll go fishing tomorrow or the next day. I need to relax a bit. I hope everybodt else is getting squared away. Send your well wishes to the folks down around Hatteras - they got nailed.
