Maps and Charts Suggestions

Howdy everyone. I am a frequent “lurker” on this board and I will have to say I appreciate every piece of wisdom you guys throw my way. Over the years you guys have not only helped me catch more fish but have also given me great information about the area in general. Hopefully one day I will have a fishing story worthy of the board. Anyway, I am hoping to learn the area even better and I am looking for some suggestions on what resources you guys might suggest for doing so. My primary interest is in fishing the sounds. I ultimately hope to buy a skiff type boat but for now it is the pure paddle power of my kayak that gets me around the sounds. Since I can’t cover as much water as you can from a boat I try to have a game plan and have done as much work up front as I can. Often when I come to the Outer Banks it is with family so I have to balance fishing times with family time so having a game plan helps me maximize this.
I have equipped the kayak with a fish finder. I think the thing would show fish swimming in my bath tub so I don’t rely on the fish ID but rather the contours/structure/drop offs it shows. If I find a “fishy” looking spot I will mark it on the GPS.
Do you guys have any suggestions on maps to buy to help familiarize myself with the sounds? Any on-line map or chart resources you guys can recommend that would be helpful in trying to find more “fishy” spots? Any advice you guys have is most appreciated.
