If you are in Buxton, take the road to the Cape Hatteras lighthouse. It is the place to be right now. It will lead you to the jetties (site of old lighthouse) or ramp 44 Cape Point (the point). I fished the point yesterday and caught 7 flounder. I had four throwbacks and three that were all close to 19 inches. I saw 30 to 40 keepers caught around me. The bait of choice was a jig head with a white gulp swimming minnow. One guy caught a 3-4 lb speck that he released. There were bluefish on and off also. The jetties were also producing fish but there were more sea mullets than flounder there.
If you choose the point, go to ramp 44. You can drive a car, park in the lot, and walk - or drive about 1/2 way on the beach and then walk. Either way, as you walk, stay in the water when passing by the bird closures. This area is patrolled heavily. If you fish this area, stop at a local tackle shop for current conditions and directions.
