sea bass

a long long time ago i went to moorehead city nc on a vacation. i had never fished the surf. i took my 6 1/2' freshwater rod. we used shrimp for bait. we caught fish the locals called black bass. we caught alot of them. i've surf fished the banks for years and can't remember ever catching one. do they have black bass along the banks? if i remember they were pretty tasty for breakfast with some home fries.
