sun fish

a couple of years ago i was surf fishing at avon. i was getting ready to leave,had a big piece of mullet left,so i put it on a bottom rig and threw it out while i was packing up.something grabbed it,almost took all my line off my reel. i managed to get some line back,but could't do anything with it. i saw it once. it looked round with little flippers on it. a man there said it was a sun fish. is there such a fish?
