cobia/flounder

what gear do I need to fish for Cobia from the piers?I'll be down tomorrow for the week and I'd also like to take the boys by the the Little Bridge and try a little flounder fishin. What time is best for the flat fish? Do they prefer minnows? And what area of the bridge? As far as my gear for the cobia I have a 12' rod with an AVET mc cast. 20# test w/40# shock leader. will this be sufficient? along with a fish finder rig?
