I spent a mid-September week in South Nagshead fishing from the beach. By all accounts the fishing was slow. When I was there a front had settled in off the coast and the surf was fairly rough and muddy. I still had a blast. Fished the pier one night and had it to myself part of the time(was very rough. caught nada). Fished hard from the beach the rest of the time and had a blast. Was still pretty slow, but caught a couple puppies, a black drum, small flounder, small pompano, spot, small blues and mullet. Be in Avon the week of Sept. 19th this year. Hoping for better weather, but minus a hurricane I know I'll have fun. For what its worth, I've read several posts by people who favor October over September. I may try to talk my recently retired father-in-law into going for a half week in Oct. to check it out.
