I always take Rt 17. Rt 95 to Rt 64 is just too stressful and traffic is horrible. But be careful on Rt 17, the cops are all over. You don't see them, but they see you so watch your speed limits.
The toll road you are talking about is only a few miles from the NC border. Toll is $2.00.
