Surf Fishing Nags Head

Hey all, I will be heading down to Nags Head for a week starting the 19th for vacation and was wondering if anyone could give me some heads up on the best bait to use and what to expect to catch surf fishing. I have all the appropriate equipment as I am an avid fisherman, but this is not my normal fishing. I am usually fishing the gulf coast. I am going on a family vacation to the OBX so I figured I would try my luck from the shore. I plan on bringing a casting net to snag some live bait from the shore. Let me know if you have any good advice that could make my experience better.
