Sharks from the beach

I'd really like to try and catch a shark from the beach while I'm down in Nags Head the week of the 20th. I'll be taking a surf rod and fishing from the beach about 100 yards below the pier towards OI. I'll alos be fishing the pier as well but wasn't sure if there were any rigs or bait suggestions for sharks.
