Slow week at OBX

Just got back from a week of surf and pier fishing at the OBX, and it was MURDER! Fished the surf from just north of Duck all the way to Nag's Head and points in betwixt, threw squid, bloodworms, shrimp, live mullet, cut mullet(thank God I caught a lot of mullets),spoons, jigs and a couple of red/white top poppers-fished high tide, low tide, early morning, evening, and overnight and got nada. One c. 11" flounder, one immature grey trout-no keepers. Most interesting catch was a 12# stingray in Duck, which was fun on my light tackle. On most beaches I'd get a skate, a dogfish, or a mullet nearly every time I got my bait wet. To my relief, I didn't see anybody else bringing up any thing either, cold comfort! Avalon and Nag's Head Piers were no different-a few small blues early in the morning, and then nothing but skates and crabs. Never had such bad luck in Coastal Carolina. True, winds were out of the south west, sea was still as glass, no surf, water temps c. 60F, and daytime highs were 85-90+F: I'm telling folks the elements conspired against me. Discouraged? A little bit, but the in-laws invited us back in September and I'll be there!
Happy Angling!
