A gotcha is a "walk the dog" type lure mainly. One of the best I've used. Toss it and reel up the slack , jerk it constantly - makes it swim from left to right. Good thing to try is to let it sink close to the pier and then give 3 or 4 quick pulls to bring it up.

Bucktails , I've always fished them with a slow retrieve. Just real fast enough to keep it off the bottom , maybe bounce it every once in a while.
