If nobody is jigging for trout , you definitely need to try it. I've stood beside people fishing with spoons and outfished them 10 to 1 with a jig.
I use 2 lb. line , so NO Bill Dance hooksets. Start with a small jig 1/32 to 1/8 are about the only sizes I use. It's not as much " jigging " as it is twitching or shaking. The tiniest movements are what generally get bites. I prefer hair jigs , if you can tie flies tie you a few in olive, brown, black etc. just don't tie the tails too long or you'll get short strikes. Or you could just buy some Trout Magnet jigs in pink, white, blue pearl etc.
If the fish are shallow , you can just fish with a plain jig , cast , let it sink a few seconds then start jigging. I'll fish one color for 30 minutes or so and if I don't get any bites I'll change color until I find what they want.
If the fish are deep , you can jig vertically from a boat or use a slip bobber and bobber stops. I would get a topo map of the lake you mentioned and try to find an underwater creek channel or other promising structure and fish around that first.
We've also had a lot of success trolling a Super Duper for trout in lakes. I've always liked the red/silver or red/black ones.
Hope that explains it a little!
