That is a broad question , but I'll try to give you a little help. Spring would be Puppy Drum , Bluefish maybe some trout/weakfish. Summer : spot , croaker , pompano , bluefish , spanish mackerel , mullet , flounder etc. Fall/winter would be Drum and Rockfish/striper.

Water temperature , wind and waves all have an effect on what type of fish will be in casting range.

If you've never fished in the surf , I would recommend you start with a simple 2 hook bottom fishing rig and some fresh shrimp or bloodworms. If you want to try artificials , maybe a Got-Cha lure or Stingsilver.
