Rod not reel will make distance on the cast as long as you don't have one of the tackle shops $29.99 specials .Know what your rod can cast.Seen guys throwing try to throw a mile by throwing as hard as they can.Broken rigs in the surf.Rod needs to be thrown with even presure thru the cast.Do not snap it at the beginning of the cast.Sort of like fly fishing, smooth not hard works.
