Surf fishing Kitty Hawk early May

I am a long-time annual visitor to the OBX, and really enjoy staying in different areas each time with my wife and dog. I also love reading all of the great threads on this site. I am curious what to expect from the surf during the week of May 8th between MP 1 and MP 3. I have never stayed that far north and have never been there in early May. We do plan to head down to Hatteras for a couple of days chasing red drum, but what can we expect in Kitty Hawk? Thanks for any information.
