Either there are no regulars on the board these days or they're too bashful to post. Well, heres another.

Hey remember, humility is a good thing.

Circa 2002 HI, Waves beach. Mid morning. Menhaden run produced fresh bait. Plenty of fish hitting.

Big one ties on. 20lb test, bottom rig. Steel leaders. Play it for about 15 minutes. It tires, Capt tires. 40" cobia. Nice fish. Rough day. Crowd has gathered to see big fish pulled in. Daughter is filming video. Got to make family proud. But, impossible to get out of the breaking surf w/o breakoff.

Send adult son about 2 feet into surf w/ instructions to "only" lift it out w/ the bottom rig - not the line.

Fish is up and out, crowd oohs and aahs, but then fish is back in!! Crowd goes silent.

Capt about to berate son when he sees the hook. Bent straight as an arrow. Someone had not changed over from north beach fishing trip. Hook was #1 freshwater baitholder, in no way up to the cobia.

Son took video shot that day and included the whole 15 minutes in the family annual CD. Of course the background music was from "Jaws". Aah, the memories...
