I live 40 miles north of the Chesapeake Bay.Crabs are king up here. 180.00 to 200.00 a Bu. in season. When the water temp.goes below 60 they tend to hibernate. Probably the same down there.I have fished many times with comm. pots on the banks and the past two years have been the worst.Ten years ago I usually caught 50-60 legal crabs a shot in two pots in a day. The last two years I was lucky to get 10.Bottom line no crabs if water temp below 60.Just like us up on the Bay you just might have to get La. crabs in the offseason. Most not all crabs peel at the full moon, thouse that do will have a paper shell and be very watery if cooked. If steaming hard crabs it is best to buy them live and feel if they are heavy and have a hard shell. I've been eating them for 40 years and they are the best white meat.
