Speaking of crabs....

I have always wanted to bring a crab net down with me and try my hand at crabbing on the sound side pier. I've seen tons of people do it at VA Beach. What I'm wondering is how to tell if they are " in fill " rather than not being full. I've heard moon phases or time of year can be used somehow to estimate what the crabs are doing , but I don't have a clue. I have never crabbed , so this may be total BS but any info is greatly appreciated. I would like to try it eventually
