this information came from my grandpap. back in the 30's or somewhere around there, the deer in this area caught a disease. it wiped out almost all of them. the virginia native deer no longer exists. they were a little smaller with really dark sharp antlers. my uncle has a mount that my grand pap killed. the government went to Michigan and brought deer here to restock. and that's what is here today. when i started deer hunting in the 60's there were not many deer. season = Nov. for 2 weeks, bucks only, had to have a Y on one side. Does on last day only. Everybody hunted that day. if you got a deer you were lucky. then i think thru poor management and less people hunting, the population exploded. i think inbreeding caused the problem. I've seen sick deer with CWD. it ain't pretty. that is why i'm not eating them anymore. last 2 years we had all our deer checked and they were OK. but with this new information coming out, just not worth it. snowing hard now!
