Monday Report

Rodanthe. East Point. 0600-0910hrs. 3-5 SW. 75 degrees. The good, the bad, the ugly and the very ugly.

Good. Beautiful morning again.

Bad. Near 0830 hrs….a bite…finally! Bent rod in 1/2 and line snapped. 10 minutes later, another. And again line snapped so loud could be heard at Oregon Inlet.

Ugly. Spooled new 20 lb. line…figurin that would solve problem = old line.

Very ugly. While respooling noticed line slide on the bail looked loose. Line would occasionally jam in what appeared to be a small slit in the slide. Upon exam found that the slide had worn so thin it split…(but only on 1 side.
May be able to fix. No time here for that … pulled out twin reel, new, never used. Removed 10 lb line. Replaced w/ 20 lb. Built 2 new bottom rigs from scratch. Looked at clock…noon. 2 hrs 45 minutes time lost.

Ate dinner at Diamond Shoals. Immediately seated. Waiter an old friend from 20 + years back. Tho staff nearly running to serve, and some empty tables, still took 45 minutes for food after ordering. Seafood was outstanding and served hot.

Why this Capt “Never” eats buffets. Watched young girl filling plate then going to salad dressings. Yup, put finger in each, finger into mouth, then same finger into next, same finger into mouth for each.

May have to leave early due to family illness back home. Could be any day.
Or could stay till Sat., w/ only 13 year old grandson. Both options bad.
