I was down in late May and took my wifes younger brother out on a Head Boat. We went on the Capt. Clam which is the sister vessel to the Miss Hatteras. We had a GREAT time although we did not bring much home ( a few flounder ) we did have fun. The boat was not crowded and everyone was catching alot of fish ( just no all legal size )
We also fished the Rodanthe Pier. It is my favorite pier on the banks ( personal opinion i guess ) The people in the tackle shop are honest and will tell you what is hitting and the best bait to use. For alot of fun use Sand Fleas and drop them right next to the pillons to catch Sheeps Head, Trigger fish and some other species. Use small hooks and light weights as you want the line and bail to float to the bottom not fall fast.
Hope this was some help!
