Fishing under or next to Frisco Pier

I understand Frisco Pier is closed which is a bummer. I am thinking about fishing from the beach right next to it next week. If we get one of those no wave summer days may paddle a canoe out to the end.

Anyone tried it out? Might lose a couple rigs, but I figure there's a good stock of fish there since it hasn't been fished.
