Line: color, weight, construction...

I'm heading to the 4x4 beaches north of Corolla next week and plan to do some surf fishing. I have several rod/reel setups to bring along, but I'm not sure what line to string them with...
1. What color(s) of line should I use? Is there one acceptable color or should I bring several?
2. What line weight should I use for each different rod/reel setup?
3. Monofilament vs. braided (Firewire)?

Are the setups varying and complex like they seem right now....or am I making this way too hard on myself?
