OBX Trip Report

Just spent a couple of weeks in Kitty Hawk and the restaurant, store prices and gas was high but I decided to splurge while there.

One day of wind on the extended forecast before leaving turned into a nasty week long noreaster storm that was winter cold during it.

Started off running into a downpour coming in through alligator alley, the road was covered in frogs could have all you want frog legs.

And then there it was running across at the end of the guard rail a big @ss black bear I thought it was just a shadow in rain at first.

Didn't hit it but was kind of close, watch out on that road and other than that only had one almost at one of the beach accesses in KDH.

A young girl in a big truck she couldn't handle came out across the double line in front of me. I also saw the accident scene at Lillian St.

I knew it was bad they had it blocked off so you couldn't see anything when redirected like circling the wagons out west, cyclist was killed.

You can't tell them it's dangerous to try to go across. So anyways the sea mullet and blowtoad fishing was good Avalon Pier area after storm.

Right before this weekend started squat there could not lose a piece of bait. The offshore fishing for tuna was good if your planning to go.

The flies were bad during the afternoon not biting me just being more of a nuisance on my legs might want to be prepared with something oily.

Tried a few places to eat was no lines. I had lot of I Got Your Crabs in Kitty Hawk have some great hushpuppies and you got a pile of flounder.

I went to High Cotton BBQ on beach road at the north end of Kitty Hawk they were only doing take out orders was busy, BBQ was as good as usual.

Hurricane Mo's still same food with new owner and had a lot of blacks in there, they made everybody sing happy birthday to one which he liked.

The ice crusher was noisy and going non-stop just so you know. Tried the new Mexican restaurant where Roosters was located was not very spicy.

Five Guys had cut back on salting the fries. Cheap pizza from Little Caesars and sub from Sheetz gas station on way in to eat may have been more.

I stopped by TW's in Nags Head were busy had live fiddler crabs about dollar a piece and sand flea rakes I'd go further south for the sheepshead.

I had a gob of repairs and stuff to do so really did not have much time to enjoy as a vacation, did get to see people I hadn't seen in awhile there.

I came back Friday to avoid the Memorial Day weekend traffic it had started early like music playing, flags out everywhere were coming in and leaving.

I had got calls from two different neighbors while there about having people wanting to go fishing in the pond. I thought alright will be no big deal.

Later on got a call from another neighbor on top of the hill saying there was a big bonfire burning and a bunch of people were down there that night.

I was thinking alright what are they burning I had cleaned up down there. I had took the boat out the water and set it on new lumber to work on boat.

They pulled the boards out and burned them then left the party for me to clean up, do not know who did it just happy they didn't use the boat in fire.

People wonder why, I always respected people's property when using even when young. Also the grass was about to my knees too will be reseeded for free.

And back in August one of the neighbors at the beach ran off two old ladies that drove a car and had set up in their beach chairs on my deck is no view.

Had to be told don't want them there. It's not a rental and definitely not a free rental. I mean where are they surely going to go and use for a toilet.

Expect no mercy on my politics be it national or fighting Jersey style beach property taxes. I'll end this with saying a big thanks! to all that served.

Have a good one!
