Question for the pros

Coming down in a few weeks to mainly surf fish the north end of oregon inlet. We plan on FWD to the end of the point near the bridge. This may sound like a stupid question, but does tread on the tires help in the sand? In snow, it is essential, but not sure on sand. I am considering purchasing new ones before I come. Someone told me it was more of a pressure thing than tread thing. Is this true?
