Wind made the big change in the water temp and color. Went from clear blue to dark brown. Caught spot pretty much all day long on real blood worms tipped with fake blood worms. Caught the occasional mullet and 1 Pompano. Had a big rig out there with fresh spot on it and had a mid-day Brawl with a big ray. He couldn’t break my 45lb braid with the steel leader, but as I was trying to get him on the beach on a wave, my unbreakable 10’ Ugly Stick snapped in half and that was it. I will say, I’ve had that rod for over 10 years and it has landed many fish in the OBX; but it’s the first rod I ever remember snapping like that trying to bring in a big fish. Not sure I’ll make it out today. Surf is getting pretty rough, but will update if I do.
Winds are giving some relief to the mosquitos which have been brutal on the teenagers this year, but they’re out running around at all hours of the night without spraying down. All in all a great week and will be sorry to leave early Saturday, but will look forward to my Fall Trip. Did eat out once and went to Dirty #####s in Avon, I will say we were pleasantly surprised how good it was! We will be going back there for sure.
