I'd bottom fish for the pompano. The Sea Striker pompano rig works good using smaller size sand fleas, small pieces of fresh shrimp or bloodworms. You'll have better luck with the right conditions which is very warm clear water with some big swells coming in. If you have a rip current "muddy streak" going beside the pier that will be the best place to find them and it can be big pompano one after the other.
