Need advice for a "New" OBX experience

I found this board by chance, and hope you can give me some advice. (By the way Debbie, If you read this, your grandchild is in my prayers... the power of the internet) I've have been to the Avon area several times over the years with the guys for surf/pier fishing trips, always in October, always camping. My wife has never been to the Outer Banks, and wants to do the family vacation thing... so now we have a house booked in Duck for July 4-11. Not my first choice for time to visit, but what was available due to our schedules. I'm not bringing any fishing gear, but have the green light to take my wife and father in law out on a 1 day charter, which is new to me as well. Neither of them have much fishing experience. Personally, I'd rather catch a bunch of smaller stuff on light tackle and fill up my cooler rather than trolling around for "a big one" I have no idea whats biting in July, or how to go about finding a charter, so any advice would be appreciated.
