3rd Edition now. Have the 1986 edition.
Great book w/ the basics,
No reports of the SH Monster for some time. Guessin the near beach foreign trawlers hauled it up years ago.
But...always a but...bout 2013 fishin a now inaccessible Salvo sound side spot, did encounter something really big. Over 6 ft. not quite on the surface. Alligator, shark or maybe kin to the original SH monster?
Around 2003, walkin the Salvo Day Use Area did see 2 big fish skeletons w/ heads size of a pony...so who knows what was and may still be out there.
Way Back Machine has kicked in. 1969, CA. Fishin lake named Clear Lake w/ couple gals who worked for this Capt. (And yes, before you start, was up and up fishin trip - Mrs. Capt there too, pregnant up on hill behind us.) Saw something movin thru water right to left about 200 ft. off shore. Brown hump maybe 15 ft long, about 24" out of water moving to north. Nothing said till several minutes later when wake started lapping at our feet. Mystery remains.
Btw...one of those gals called last week. Long retired. Now 81. Still talks about that day.
