Kinda figured you were messin...but these days you never can be sure. Lotsa "loons" out there.

As for April Fools Day - never considered that.

Certainly you have no need to apologize.

How about I share a tavern story w/ you?? Early 60's. Located in now what's called the Inner City here on the North Coast. Dad would run a raffle each year the night before Thanksgiving. Prizes were all items that could be used for dinner the next day. Included were chickens, turkeys and ducks. And they were both dressed and "Live!! Was the busiest nite of the year w/ everyone hopin to walk away w/ a win. Now there was a neighbor who lived across the back alley...huge woman, lots of fun always. About 1/2 way thru the drawings her name was picked. With a squeal she waited for her prize which turned out to be a large beautiful white duck. Dad carried it out from back room upside down by its legs while it squawked its displeasure. Est. wingspan about 4 ft. Perfect...big duck for a big woman. Well the woman who had participated for many years w/o winning couldn't wait to tell her family. No cell phones back then - most all had dial phones w/ "party lines" (old coots will remember those). Now we had a heavy dark wooden pay phone booth in the tavern. (You held one wired piece to your ear and talked into the receiver built into the pay phone). The booth had a wooden folding door mostly made of glass. Now part of the fun was just watching her squeeze her ample body into the phone booth to call home and tell them the good news. Because of all the commotion she turned her back to the festivities to better hear on the phone. The door was still open. Leave it to dad, duck still in hand, threw it into the bottom of the phone booth and slammed the door shut. You can guess the screams emanating from the phone booth as dad firmly held it closed while it slowly filled all the way to the top w/ feathers and down.

The day after the raffle was always bad news for our family tho. The tavern had a stamped metal ceiling 20 ft. above the well worn wood (yes wood) floor. Droppings from the live poultry reached even up there, and had to be scraped of and washed, not to mention all the tables, chair, bar and back bar w/ all the liquor bottles. It was a mess that took all nite to clean before the 5:00 AM opening the next day.

Lots of other tavern stories to share. Comin immediately to mind are ones about the morgue, the drunken 3 1/2 ft. shoe shine boy, the customer who disappeared in a snow storm, and a customer waiting his turn in the barber shop next door. All classics, from days long gone by.
