No crocs, but plenty of alligators a little further south and west at Alligator National Wildlife Refuge near Columbia. There are some in roadside canals that are 10 feet long. When you see a bunch of cars stopped along Rt 64, they are probably looking at gators. There are also loads of black bears, deer, and the only place in America to have Red Wolves. All of this a 70 mile drive from Duck. As far as fishing, you might do better along the beaches from Kitty Hawk to Nags Head. Try the areas directly north of any fishing pier located in those areas. There is usually a good slough formed within a few hundred yards of the piers. Lots of different species can be caught in spots like this.
