Arrived at new house today. Only 2 families this year. Staying just 100 yards or so south of the Rodanthe Pier. Surf is a mess, at high tide there's 2'-3' hole at edge of beach about 5' wide then a ankle high bar for about 35-50 yards till the breaker. In comparison that first real breaker is about 1/2 way out on the pier. Pier worker said this hard SW wind over the last few weeks has basically filled the old hole in. Tried bottom rigs with Bloodworms (zero), Tried Blues Rigs with fresh cut bait (zero) Tried hand tied Spot Rigs with shrimp and squid (Zero). Did have a fish finder set up with an 8/0 circle hook with fresh cut Mullet out there and something yanked my rod right out of the holder and I had to jump on the rod as it was being dragged into surf. Tried working fish but line snapped. I'm sure it was probably one of those nice size sharks they've been catching on the pier. It will be Steel leaders today. The Capt. wont believe my story of course, but I have a Judge (Family that came with us) sitting right there with me to witness the ordeal. It was actually comical and looked like something staged!
Raining this morning so will head out when it gets clear.
